Sensitive Equipment Inventory - How?

To conduct a sensitive equipment inventory, list every room in your home. Don't forget to include the garage, basement and any outbuildings you might have. Leave enough space under each room heading so you can list the electrical equipment. Then start walking. Go room by room listing each piece of electrical equipment in that room. Note whether or not the device is connected to the outside world in any other way besides the power line. Examples include modems, telephone or control lines. You'll also want to note whether items can be grouped and share a multiple outlet device. Then sit down with your list and determine which of the items you want to protect.

Now use your inventory to develop a surge protector shopping list. Pay special attention to the units that will require cable or phone protection in addition to power protection.
