Interruption Symptoms - Lighting

On incandescent systems, outages or interruptions simply turn out the lights. Momentary interruptions may be seen as flicker or blinks, but temporary and sustained interruptions will shut the lights off.

Temporary and sustained interruptions will also shut down fluorescent and high intensity discharge, or HID, lighting systems. Once again, there's usually no damage to the lights, but if transients are associated with the interruption, then other problems may arise.

Momentary interruptions may also cause fluorescent and HID systems to flicker, but it's more likely they'll restart. For HID systems, restarting may take several minutes. This is not only annoying, but could be dangerous.
