Transient Symptoms - Distribution Equipment

Spikes cause the same three problems in the power system as they do in electronic equipment - disruption, degradation or destruction. A spike may cause a receptacle to arc, momentarily disrupting the power. If the transients are occurring often, wiring, fuses, breakers, transformer windings, and connections may degrade over time leading to failure. And last, any spike, if large enough, can cause a part of the system to fail on the spot, especially the windings of transformers.
