Battery Backup Systems - Description

A battery back-up system used to power critical loads can be one of two types. The least expensive type is the standby power system or SPS. The other is the uninterruptible power supply or UPS.

SPS's usually are small units from 100 watts to about 1000 watts. They are usually used for protecting only one or two PC's. UPS's on the other hand, can be found supplying clean uninterrupted power to everything from PC's to the largest main frame computers.
