Data Centers - Special Needs
Large data centers have a variety of special needs. These facilities are the epitome of the sensitive electronic environment.
For starters, every aspect of power quality that has been discussed must be carefully considered. Power disturbances must be prevented, grounding must be acceptable, even EMI must be addressed.
But, the out-of-the-ordinary issues for data centers don't really focus on the computers themselves. They focus on the systems installed for protection and communications. These systems include special transformers, uninterruptible power systems, digital and satellite links, and many others.
According to the proverb, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. The power system feeding the data center and the impact the data center has on the rest of the facility are critical links all too often overlooked.
