Complete A Circuit

  • 1 D-cell battery
  • Old string of holiday lights
  • Scissors or wire cutters
  1. Using scissors or wire cutters, cut off a section on the string of lights so that you have one light with an even amount of wire on each side.
  2. Carefully remove each of the ends of the wire insulation, so you have about a quarter of an inch of wires exposed.
  3. Now hold one end of the exposed wire to the positive (+) side of the battery and one end to the negative (-) end of the battery. If the light bulb lights up, you have completed a circuit.

What happens when you remove one end of the wire from the battery?
